There have been many comments likening the present disagreement over the debt limit to a sports event, alluding to whose court in which the ball may be or moving the goal posts. To me the situation is clearly not a game but much more like a situation in which the spouse in control of the checkbook threatens not to write the checks to pay the bills unless the other wangles a pay raise or gets a higher paying job, or agrees to stop shopping. All with no concern that the bank may foreclose or the power and other utilities be cut off.
