Election Reflection

The day after voting, poor Mitt was distraught.
He thought the election was his to be bought.
He'd hopped to the left and he'd hopped to the right.
He'd bounced through the middle then deftly took flight.
He flew around issues, he squatted on waste.
He fluttered and flattered all over the place.

With the bucks of the big boys and prayers of the pure,
He was certain that his team was sure to endure.
"My people they fasted and prayed for my win.
I promised to save them and wipe out all sin.
I promised to trickle on those down below.
Some didn't believe me, and that was a blow.”

Yet Romney and Ryan still think it’s untrue
That so many swing states could really be blue.
Ryan blames black folks and big-city dwellers
For voting more often than rural white fellers.
“My budget is golden,” he says with conviction,
Unaware that to most folks it’s pure dereliction.

Romney, for his part, blames “gifts” that the POTUS
Has showered on moochers in every known locus.
“Once hooked on these handouts,” he tells the high rollers,
“They'll repeal our tax breaks – just for clothing and strollers!
They’ll coddle our enemies, seed toxic blights
Such as primary health care and immigrants’ rights!”

The truth is more simple than these guys pretend.
But they’re too drunk on dogma to listen or bend.
Despite all their efforts to skew the election
By blocking your vote if you lacked transportation,
The voters turned out and they spoke loud and clear.
The message was one these guys can’t bear to hear.

So Romney and Ryan, it’s time to get real.
Let’s stop with the nonsense and try now to heal.
The election is over, the talking is done.
Your party lost, and my party won.
So let us be friends, let arguments pass.
I’ll hug your elephant, you kiss my…donkey.
