A Politically Incorrect Reply to Dr. Carson's
Dr. Carson-
Okay, let's end political correctness.
I could never vote for a person for the Office of President of our country who has demonstrated that their decision making process eschews evidence and instead uses belief, and foolish belief (to be politically incorrect), at that.
Except for one ancient book, whose "evidence" is anecdotal at best, there is absolutely no evidence at all that indicates the Earth is 6000 years old. There is overwhelming evidence that it is much older, probably on the order of some six billion years older. Any person who believes otherwise is a fool. (Again, if I may be "politically incorrect"...)
Further, your knowledge of our Constitution needs some improvement. Article VI disallows any religious test for candidates for public office, including the Presidency. Thus a person of any religion cannot have their religion used as a disqualification for public office. A Muslim, Baptist, Methodist, Catholic, Jew, Hindi, Atheist, or any other elected candidate swears to uphold the Constitution, not some religious belief or religious law.
As to your and the other Republican candidates' support for Ms. Kim Davis, I remind you of the First Amendment. No one is fighting Christianity here. She is allowed her beliefs, as you are yours. However, neither she nor you are allowed to use a Government office to force religious beliefs on others, no matter how correct you or she think your beliefs are. This is a fundamental standard in the Constitution that has been upheld for 240 years. You don't like Sharia law, I don't like Christian law (for the same reasons that you don't like Sharia law). But you, Ms. Davis, and I are all required to follow this country's secular law.
Conservatives and other fundamental Christians have confused something else. There is no "war on Christianity". If anything, there is push-back against those Christians who insist on pushing their religion upon others who don't want it, on those who believe otherwise.
If Ms. Davis and others of her ilk wish to live in a country that is controlled by religion, I invite them to go live in an ISIS or Taliban controlled area. Believe me, ISIS thinks their religion is the "right" one. Ms. Davis and her supporters can get a good taste of a religion with which they disagree being forced on them and controlling their lives. (It might be a learning experience for her.)
There are hundreds of religions among the peoples of the world, each with hundreds of sects. Their followers all believe that their particular religion is the "right" one, yet they all disagree with each other. So your belief that your religion is the "correct" one is disputed by at least a few billion people.
Lastly, this country is not at all "founded on Judeo-Christian values", a common misconception of the religious right and many conservatives. Many of the Founders were not Christians at all (some were Deists, some were Christians, a couple were Atheists). They came to this land to get away from the (Christian) religion controlled government of England. Our form of government was based on ancient Greek philosophers' ideal of Democracy. Our legal Code is, in part, based on the Magna Carta, the first written document given by a government that acknowledges basic human rights for all and fairness and consistency in law for all.
A study of the Judeo-Christian Bible reveals many "values" that disregard basic human rights and often offer unfair and arbitrary punishments for wrongdoing. Do you really want to follow all the rules specified in the Book of Leviticus, for example?
