Unbridled Monopoly: The Real Game of the US 2016 Elections
The possibility of resolving a wide variety of common concerns is being promoted to the US public as an important goal of active participation in the 2016 elections. This compelling objective stems from the democratic principles expressed by our forefathers and inscribed in our constitution.
Many US citizens firmly believe that nurturing democratic elections is a valid goal. They commit time and money to help make it viable. However, they are not aware that an elite few of their compatriots have pledged allegiance to a very different goal and are secretly applying enormous resources to achieve it. They are playing a different game that is quite simple in concept but devastating in results when played with powerful resources and devious skill. It is the real game being played behind the scenes in US 2016 elections. Its name is monopoly.
Get out your old Monopoly board game and ask some astute friends to spend a fun evening with you in educational play. Observe what happens as the game unfolds and a few players “win” most of the assets. Like buying up properties in a Monopoly game, wealthy US corporations and other elite groups have been purchasing power positions in a wide range of government agencies and legislative bodies. They have used these positions to get rules ignored and legislation enacted to eliminate many troublesome regulations. Then they have pushed merger after merger of ballooning corporations to create the same kind of invincible power that Monopoly board game players get when they own enough hotels or utilities or rental properties.
The terrible effect of electing Trump will be that a few players in the elite monopoly game will win big while most of us will get wiped out. He will quickly join hands with other greedy and profit hungry players to move government operations in a hard right direction. Diplomatic relationships with other nations will be replaced with stern power edicts based on military might. When he appoints several new judges to the Supreme Court our dream of a democratic society with social and economic parity will be “gone with the wind.”
Now, the good news. The suffocating monopolies being sought by the 1% can be avoided. In a groundbreaking book entitled, The New Golden Age: The Coming Revolution Against Political Corruption and Economic Chaos, economist and social researcher Ravi Batra identified inevitable cycles through which every society evolves. He offered firm evidence that our US society is nearing the end of a cycle wherein materialistic acquisition by greedy elites is increasingly present and harmful. His findings also showed that when this oppressive condition exists in a society it sooner or later triggers a revolution, which is then followed by a bold new era of progressive improvements. Batra noted that throughout recorded history such revolutions have resulted in destructive violence and bloodshed. However, he offered the hopeful insight that because more people are better informed, the coming revolution in the United States might be peacefully achieved by exercising the power of the ballot box.
Occupy Wall Street protesters planted the seeds for a revolution when they annexed a square block of Manhattan’s financial district in September of 2011. They changed the name of Zuccotti Park to Liberty Square and sparked a vigorous movement against the manipulations of greedy Wall Street moneymongers. That movement has continued to grow, especially among the educated young. It was clearly in evidence at the recent Democratic Convention in Philadelphia. The concerns and aims of the movement were deliberated along with the revolutionary ideas of Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren when planks of the 2016 Democratic Party Platform were being composed. Thus, the stage is now set for fully activating a revolution that will usher in a new era of social and economic parity for all citizens of the United States. Enough committed and active voters can make it happen and assure that the secret monopoly game of the 1% is relegated to the dustheap.
