Uplifted Awareness: Democracy Can't Work Without It

In a democratic republic like the United States, the people organize a representative governing plan to help them obtain what they need for healthy, happy, and productive lives.  Ideally this enables them to obtain these things together more effectively than would be possible alone.  The men who designed a government for the new American Republic had this in mind.  They aimed to replace the repressive oligarchy they escaped from with a new government of the people, by the people and for the people.  As their hopes for this new form of inclusive government were passionately debated, they realized that there was a dearth of ideas and plans anywhere to be found in the known world at that time for forming such a government.

Expert help to resolve this dilemma actually came from a group of indigenous Native Americans. They had established a complex and comprehensive democracy there long before the Colonists arrived. Benjamin Franklin did more than anyone else to promote the genius of the Iroquois League and recommend many of its practices. He never stopped talking about the great benefit that would come to a democratic republic by following its principles. He persistently brought them to the attention of Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, John Adams, and other framers of the American Constitution.  For details about this special contribution of indigenous Americans see article published by Reader Supported News 10/24/16.http://readersupportednews.org/pm-section/78-78/39867-the-special-contribution-of-indigenous-americans-to-formation-of-the-unique-government-of-the-united-states

From the start, a few greedy and power hungry men in the Colonies were unhappy with this new form of government. They secretly conspired to gain authority to exploit the abundant native resources for their personal profit. Eventually they gained control of enough pliant office holders in the fledging government to shut off the influence of the native peoples and confiscate their lands. Various U.S. Presidents were also compromised by promises of great power and riches. They joined with corrupted legislators to clear the way for forced evacuations, seizing of assets, and even outright killing when necessary to deal with “the Indian problem.”

Under the leadership of President Andrew Jackson millions of native people were forced to leave their homes and land. The folks that elected Jackson and gave him the power to do this were mostly rough frontiersmen.  Many of them had served as soldiers in military actions under his command. They had little or no education about the history of the new world and the exceptional value of a democratic government the natives had helped to create.  Physical and economic survival at a subsistence level was their main concern. They saw that the natives had lots of land on which crops were raised and plentiful game was hunted for furs and food.  Their experience with Jackson led them to revere him as a man of action who took care of his own and got things done. Angry and unaware ruffians voted Jackson into the office of President and beset him with noisy demands that he reward their loyalty by getting rid of the natives that stood in their way, once and for all.

In yielding to the demands of his supporters Jackson initiated one of the most horrible instances of attempted genocide in the history of the world.  Information about the brutal methods used and the millions killed was suppressed for many years.  Only about sixty years ago did details of this travesty start coming into public discourse.  It is doubtful that more than a few thousand Americans know what the Cherokees suffered.  Fewer still are aware of how their story parallels the recent election of Donald Trump as President.

Consider that one of Trump’s first acts upon moving into the White House was to hang a portrait of Andrew Jackson in the Oval Office.  His admiration for Jackson says a great deal about what he means when he talks about making America great again. Jackson’s supporters wanted the natives’ land and a chance to make a fortune growing crops on it. The moneyed elites of today also want land belonging to natives and a chance to make fortunes with it by extracting underground resources (oil, gas, minerals).  As in Jackson’s era, this can’t be done without support of a corrupted government and lying, stealing, forced transfer, or even killing the rightful owners.

Most people who voted for Trump probably would not condone the policies and methods that he represents if they knew the truth about them.  When asked, well meaning supporters said they voted “for needed change.”  They also revealed to the questioners that they had little or no information about the related historical truths, and the hidden aspirations of the candidate.  However well meant, the effects of good faith but uninformed decisions can bring forth terrible results. That is a very painful truth we are now learning the hard way as we teeter on the threshold of disaster.  If we are to save our wounded republic, uplifted awareness of the truth is critically needed.  It is the only cure for the ignorance that leaves us blinded to how our democracy is being systematically stolen behind our backs. It is the only viable means for understanding what currently plagues our special government and what we can do to effect a healing.

A good place to start is by researching the true story of how the native Cherokee Tribe was decimated by an ambitious demagogue and mobs of wanton ruffians who supported him.  Also, let it soak in that the Cherokee clearances were financed by a few wealthy men and the banks they controlled.  The true story of the Cherokee holocaust is available on several Internet websites, including: http://www.ushistory.org/us/24f.asp. It is also told in Unto These Hills, a heartbreaking outdoor pageant performed every summer at the Mountainside Theater in Cherokee, North Carolina: http://www.cherokeesmokies.com/unto_these_hills.html

Check it out.  Consider what this information implies about the situation we are in right now.  Then join with others who are seeking to uplift public awareness of the truth and work with them to resist Trump’s plan to make America (great again) as it was during the reign of Andrew Jackson.  While you are at it, scope out Trump’s grand illusion for teaming up with other world players beyond America, like Russia’s Putin, to make the biggest and best deals for power and profits the world has ever seen.  Find out what really moves Mike Pence, who claims to be a true Christian on special assignment directly from God, to embrace the egocentric illusion of Donald Trump whose shifty actions and pronouncements closely resemble the biblical description of the antichrist.  Discover the game plan of virtual President, Steve Bannon, who sits at Trump’s right hand and orchestrates his movements to consolidate power.  Research what role is envisioned for the world’s largest private army, previously named Blackwater Worldwide and founded by Eric Prince, brother of multi-billionaire Trump team member Betsy DeVos.

Make it pressing business to get truthful information about these issues and share it with others.  Then find ways to help create the uplifted awareness that can enable multitudes of ordinary people to be a dedicated force great enough to neutralize the concentration of evil in the deceptive plans of Trump and his fascist friends.  Keep in mind that there are more of us than there are of them, but that only works if we join together in active combat.  We must fight now against what we know is evil and for what we know is good at the same time.
