POLITICS GOES VIRAL: Should Dems consider Cuomo over Biden?

Should Joe Biden step aside to make way for Andrew Cuomo?

With each passing day, Donald Trump is demonstrating his lack of competence and compassion to lead the nation through the COVIS-19 crisis, which is posing an existential threat to our way of life.

Cuomo, on the other hand, is taking charge of the state response in New York, which has been hit hard by the virus.

He is modeling what presidential leadership should look like.

He looks like the kind of candidate the Democrats should run in the fall election against Trump.

The party began the primary season with more than twenty wannabes. Some were serious contenders. Others were merely in the race to raise their own political profile or to spotlight causes they believe in — from term limits to a guaranteed annual income.

As the contest droned on, Biden and Bernie Sanders emerged as the final two. But our public health crisis has pushed the primary race into the background. And voters don’t have the time or inclination to concentrate on the daunting task of choosing between two old, white men whose times have come and gone.

And while Bernie hasn’t officially backed out, it is foregone conclusion that Biden will have enough convention votes to sew up the nomination.

The only question is who will he pick as a running mate. And since he’s committed to picking a woman — preferably one who competed with him on stage during the series of candidate debates — he has severely curtailed his options.

Of course, he could renege on his commitment and pick Cuomo, who has emerged as the most electable Democrat we currently have — and groom him to take over after one term, or sooner.

Or he could step aside and make way for Cuomo before the nominating convention this summer.

Doing his job as New York governor between now and the November election — and doing it well — while Trump continues to bungle his way through the COVIS-19 crisis, would be the most effective alternative to a campaign to unseat Trump.
