The MOST DANGEROUS Law State Legislators Have Been Asked to Vote For in Their Lifetimes!

So far, the legislatures of 8 states (California, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington) and the District of Columbia have voted to pass the most dangerous law those legislators have ever been asked to vote for. It’s called “The National Popular Vote” plan whereby the states are being asked to agree to have their Electoral College System’s electors vote who whoever wins the nation-wide popular vote no matter who a majority of the voters in their state actually voted for. The plan will “take effect” when enough states have passed that law to constitute a majority of our nation’s Electoral College votes. In other words, it is a scheme to replace our Electoral College System with a “direct popular vote” system for electing our President and Vice President. For the reasons described below, such a change would more likely than not lead to violent chaos in the United States and eventually a replacement of our government with a military dictatorship, as has happened in most other countries that have tried using a direct popular vote system to elect their “head of state.”

Advocates for the National Popular Vote plan point to public opinion polls that show strong public support for their plan, but those polls are meaningless, because they are nothing more than an example the “not seeing the forest for the trees” phenomenon (they have only been told half of the story). As shown below, for decades now, our nation’s mainstream news agencies have either failed or refused to educate their audiences regarding the disastrous consequences that other countries have experienced when they tried to use a direct popular vote electoral system to elect their “head of state.”

Advocates for the National Popular Vote also like to claim that because we have been electing our governors using a direct popular vote electoral systems without any significant problems occurring, the same would hold true for electing our President using a direct popular vote electoral system. That’s a false analogy, because our governors have to obey US federal laws (as well as state laws), whereas our President (head of state) does not, as has been so clearly demonstrated by the actions of George W. Bush. All our President has to do is declare a “state of emergency”, and he can get away with using the US Military, CIA, FBI, Homeland Security agencies, and/or National Guard forces to do whatever he wants. So the LAST thing we should want is an electoral system that will inevitably help extremists become President of the United States!

So here is “the other side of the story” which our mainstream news agencies have been neglecting to tell you. It has been online at my website (www.onesalt.com) since 1996 with slight revisions made in 2002.

My online article about this is, "The 'Golden Goose' of American Politics" at www.onesalt.com/p0000043.htm
