Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders one-upped Treasury Secretary Mnuchin and President Trump's plan to offer a $1,000 financial aid package to Americans to stabilize the economy during the coronavirus outbreak by suggesting a $2,000 per month payout. He also called for expanding Medicare to cover all coronavirus-related medical bills.

Sanders acknowledged that it will cost "an unprecedented amount of money," but "this unprecedented moment, this will require an unprecedented amount of money.”

“In this moment of crisis it is imperative that we stand together,” Sanders said Tuesday evening in a live-streamed speech.

“In the midst of this crisis,” he said, “we must empower Medicare to cover all medical bills during this emergency.”
